What's Up With This?

What would you think if you interviewed with a practice where you felt things went well, you liked everyone you met, discussion was smooth and comfortable, and even had a quick response to your thank you emails from the people you met with, including the director of the practice saying that they were all currently trying to come up with a plan to properly precept you....

....and they re-advertise their opening?

Man....this is a tough one. I thought I had this job in the bag but looks like they were not as into me as I thought.

Maybe you are supposed to open your own practice?

well i wouldn't want to be a place that they weren't up front and honest with me.

even if it hurt a bit, i'd rather them tell me "you know.. i just don't think that we're interested in having you here. but thank you for applying."

It could simply mean they did not get the minimum applicants they need to properly fill the position - some places require a specific number of applicants. Don't give up hope, there are also times that a mistake is made in re-advertising that has nothing to do with those who are making the decisions.

Like Ethel said, until you hear otherwise, I don't think the ad means anything.

I'd call them and ask where they are with this. Let them know you saw that it had been re-advertised and wondered why you weren't given the job.

Could it be just a communication error? They really liked you but the person actually in charge of placing the ad didn't get the memo, or they had already put in the ad order prior to speaking with you? Maybe all is not as it seems. Contact them, yes, to see how things are going, but don't ask why you didn't get the job - that could create an awkward situation or burn social capital if they are still considering you.

Fools! Any place would be lucky to have you.

Mistakes happen, wires get crossed, strange administrative requirements come into play. Bottom line - re-apply. Good luck!
